Radio Training
Mike Owen Media has a long history of activity in the increasingly important field of radio training. Since 2005, UK broadcasters have been obliged to make reports to the Broadcast Training & Skills Regulator (BTSR) which detail the amount and type of training that they have provided for their staff.
Mike Owen Media has been at the forefront of industry training initiatives. In 2005, we conducted the first ever regional survey of radio training needs of the Midlands radio sector. We conducted interviews with station managers and personnel from all commercial radio operators as well as the BBC. The publication of the "Radio Training in the West Midlands" report was a crucial event in the history of radio training.
Since then, we have worked closely with Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Industries, as well as the Radio Skills Development Forum. We have achieved accreditation with UK awarding bodies and have operated a number of successful radio training programmes.
In 2007, Mike Owen was invited to become a member of a pilot programme organised by the Quality Improvement Agency. The programme, which is ongoing, is designed to create new resources and techniques for use in further and higher education.
We have operated a number of radio training programmes. For more information, please visit the following pages:
Accreditation
Mike Owen Media is in the unique position of being a radio industry company that is able to provide nationally-recognised accredited qualifications.
This is due to our "Centre Status" with some of the UK's most well-known examining bodies, specifically NCFE and OCR.
